Bat Trang Ceramic Village

An old, well-established village in Gia Lam district of Hanoi, about 13 km from central Hanoi, on the east bank of the Red River. Currently, this is probably the most famous village in the traditional ceramic industry. In fact, Bat Trang produces a unique style of ceramics called porcelain. Moreover, Bat Trang is well known throughout Vietnam for its beautiful ceramics, the production started in the 14th century. Nowadays, the village uses gas or electricity instead of coal to reduce pollution. Many shops at the village entrance sell Bat Trang and also Chinese ceramic products. In addition, you could take a quick lesson to learn how to form a product from clay.

Dong Ho Traditional Painting Village

In Song Ho Commune, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province. 35km East from Hanoi, on the Southern bank of the Duong river. Nobody knows when this village started the production of folk woodcut painting, but at least 21 generations ago. Dong Ho paintings are mainly bought and displayed on the occasion of Tet – Vietnamese New Year, contents of pictures are often humorous, the optimist with many bright and powerful colours like red, yellow, or white. Unfortunately, the current painting products are not as good as before with the use of more chemical materials. Most of the people in the village make votive paper, a very good business with a better earning.

Van Phuc silk village: Right in Hanoi, 10km west from the city centre. Over 1,000 years ago Lady A Nha Thi Nuong started the business, and together with Bat Trang ceramic village, the productions continue till now. This is the main supply of Vietnamese silk, exporting nationwide and worldwide. People like this product because it’s good to wear when the weather is either hot or cold, smooth as silk that said.

But Thap Pagoda

Also known as Dien Ung or Phap Van or Co Chau pagoda where the first Indian monks landed in Vietnam. In But Thap village, Dinh To Commune, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province, nearly 40km from Hanoi. It was built in the 13th century and is now one of the most famous pagodas around Hanoi with a very special Eastern architecture.
