Vietnam Motorcycle Motorbike Tours – North-East Tour

NORTH-EAST TOUR OF VIETNAM ON MOTORBIKE

North-East Tour On Two Wheels Introduction

Vietnam Motorcycle & Motorbike Tours is proud to present this North-East tour on motorbike. This is a stunning mountain ride with culture rich and local home stays that works for both non-experienced and experienced riders. The tempo is slow due to the speed limit in Vietnam (60km/h). In just 6 days you will see Thac Ba and Ba Be lakes, Ban Gioc waterfalls and Highway 4. This part of Vietnam is less touristy due to road works and coverage in travel guide books and magazines. Even the mountains are lower than Northwest or Ha Giang area, it’s still one of the best rides in 6 days.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Hanoi – Vu Linh. ~180 km, ~6 h.

Today is the first day of this 6 days North-East tour by motorbike. To get out of Hanoi safely, we will have a short briefing to let you know about the rules. In addition, the guide will show you how to understand him by his body language. We start around 9.30am after the rush hours.

Ride to Vu Linh in 6 hours by taking the dike road along the Red River (Song Hong) at around 9am. In general, the road is easy and mostly sealed. We are welcome in the house of our Dao friends. In fact, the welcome is exceptional. Ngoi Tu is a commune in Vu Linh village, on the East bank of Thac Ba lake. If it’s early we could take a short boat ride or swim on Thac Ba lake.

Day 2: Vu Linh – Ba Be. ~200 km, ~7 h.

You ride from Vu Linh to Na Khan through Tuyen Quang where we could have lunch with a Tay family. The road is sealed almost all the way. However, the last part (10 kilometres) is wild and bumpy.

Then we do a short drive from Na Khan to Ba Be on a bumpy road. When we arrive, you join dinner at our host family house with the family.

Day 3: Ba Be – Cao Bang. ~170 km, ~8 h.

A short boat trip in the morning on Ba Be Lake. In fact, this is world’s largest lake on limestone. Then a beautiful ride up to Cao Bang province. There are a few passes from where you can dominate the area. The road is easy but has many curves. While riding, we can stop very often for photos. Altogether, with stops for drinks and food, it should be an 8-hour journey. Stay in a hotel in Cao Bang.

Day 4: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfalls – Quang Uyen. ~130 km, ~2 h.

Having obtained permission from the border police we make our way through spectacular scenery to Vietnam’s most impressive waterfalls. Weather permitting we can swim right up to where the 50 m high falls hit the river.

Due to the opening of a recent international trading post between Vietnam and China at Po Peo in Trung Khanh, many big trucks use this road and it’s a real single dirt track now.

After visiting this waterfall, ride 1 more hour back to the beautiful village of Quang Hoa, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people. Finally, spend the night at our friend’s house.

Day 5: Quang Hoa – Lang Son. ~150 km, ~5 h.

Drive from Quang Hoa to Lang Son. Currently, Lang Son is the biggest trading post between Vietnam and China now due to its distance to Hanoi. In addition, this is our chance to buy some cheap Chinese electronics like a phone charger, power banks, toys, replica products etc.

Overnight in a hotel.

Day 6: Lang Son – Hanoi. ~150 km, ~4 h.

If the weather is nice, we can continue driving toward South to Mau Son. Mau Son is 30 km away from Lang Son, 1.541m above sea level. Promenade around Mau Son in the morning, visit our Dao friends. Then, ride down to Lang Son to have lunch.

On the road back to Hanoi, there are a few traditional villages and also Buddhist pagodas that we could stop and pay a visit.

Arrival at Hanoi around 4 pm. End this 6 days North-East tour before rush hours.

There are many more North-east tours on motorcycle that we can design to cater for your needs and riding experience. It can be from 4 days to 8 days with extension to Halong Bay. Just contact us and see what we can do together.
